DEO VINDICE
Robert E. Lee standing on the back porch of the Stewart House in 1865.  After the surrender, Lee returned to Richmond and stayed at this house in the 700 block of east Franklin Street.  Built in 1844 for Norman Stewart, a Scottish tobacco merchant, the house was rented from his nephew, John Stewart, by Robert e Lee’s family during the war.  Following Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, he lived there for just over two months.
Commanders Comment:
The speaker for the June meeting will be Mr. Waite Rawls, III of the Museum of the Confederacy.  Hopefully, we will learn about the future of the Museum of the Confederacy, but there is no assurance that final plans have been completed.  There will be no meeting in July or August due to the number of people on vacation, but we will reconvene our meetings on September 23rd.  Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you next fall.

Cannon Report:
The June meeting will be on the 24th.  The meeting will be held at The Village Garden Café, 1 pm lunch, and 2 pm meeting.  The Village Garden Café, 8844 Old Buckingham Rd. is just east of the Courthouse.  Cost per person is $9.00 (plus you may tip our Hostess). There will be no meetings in July and August.  Meetings will resume on September 23rd.  Have a Great Summer.  See you in September.

It is with much sadness that I inform you of the passing of Compatriot and Camp Historian, Richard Butler.  On the evening of Thursday, June 7th, Richard departed this life.  Funeral services were held Sunday, June 10th.  Richard had only been a member of our Camp for a short period, and although he was in very poor health, he was always dutiful and eager to serve.  He will be sincerely missed.
