Commander’s Comments

Judge Advocate Gordon Drumheller and I attended the 111th SCV National Reunion in New Orleans, Louisiana from 3 August through 6 August.  A new constitution was approved under the Laws of Texas and new National Officers were elected including Brag Bowling as Councilman for the Army of Northern Virginia.  The reunion was a great success with over 600 registered members representing over 300 camps were in attendance.
We had a good reunion and saw much of New Orleans almost a year after hurricane Katrina.  The City is rebuilding but there is much work to be completed.

The Cannon Report:

Greetings from the Cannon Report.  Now that summer is over, it is time to get back to our Camp meetings, picnics, and parties.  It is also time to start sending in those yearly SCV dues ($35).  We will get back into the swing of it all by having a Camp picnic on Sunday the 24th of September.  The picnic will be at Fighting Creek Park off of Mann Rd. in Powhatan just west of the Courthouse off of Old Buckingham Rd.  We will meet at the picnic pavilion at 4 p.m.  Bring a side dish; the Camp will furnish meat and drinks.

The October meeting will be held on the 25th at the Village Garden Café, 8433 Old Buckingham Rd. just east of the Courthouse.  One p.m. lunch and 2 p.m. meeting (Dutch treat).  Our speaker will be Virginia Division Adjutant Chris Evans.

The November meeting will be held early on the 19th of the month due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  It will also be at the Village Garden Café, 1 p.m. lunch and 2 p.m. meeting.

The December meeting will be our Annual Christmas Party held on Sunday the 10th.  Mrs. Dianne Campbell, the widow of Compatriot Malcolm Campbell will be our gracious Hostess this year.  Details to follow.
