The Powhatan Troop, Camp 1382
Born in what is now the state of West Virginia, in the town of Clarksburg, Thomas Jonathan Jackson possessed a strong military background at the outbreak of the War of Northern Aggression. His training in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, recognition as a hero in the Mexican War, and his experience as an instructor at the Virginia Military Institute justified Jackson's rank of brigadier general at the first major battle of the War near Manassas, Virginia.  Upon that field, General Bernard E. Bee proclaimed, "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall," and a legend as well as a nickname was born.

Commander's Comments
Hopefully everyone has had a joyful summer and is ready to resume our normal schedule.  The speaker for the September 23, 2007 meeting will be Reverend Deron R. Jackson who will speak on, “The Life of Jackson”.  This will involve the character of Jackson rather than his military exploits.  Our traditional Muster Day will be held in October so please plan to attend both of these interesting and important events.

Cannon Report:

Let me second the Commander in hoping that everyone had a great summer and I would like to apologize for the black and white issue of the Cannon Report.  My color printer chose this time to stop functioning.  The September meeting will be on the 23rd.  The meeting will be held at The Village Garden Café, 1 pm lunch, and 2 pm meeting.  The Village Garden Café, 8844 Old Buckingham Rd. is just east of the Courthouse.  Cost per person is $9.00 (plus you may tip our Hostess).  I hope to see you there.

Please let me remind each member to send in your dues to the state headquarters.  If you have not received your SCV membership statement from State HQ, please contact the Adjutant, John Moody.  I would like to also remind each camp member, that if you have an email address, I can email the monthly Cannon Report.  It will save the Camp 51 cents monthly.  You can email me at scvcamp1382@yahoo.com  .
