Commander’s Comments
There will be a lot of activity at our annual picnic.  The Camp will celebrate Confederate History Month with good food and fellowship.  Army of Northern Virginia Commander, Henry Kidd, will have the painting of "The First Muster" on display.  Three new members will be sworn into our Camp.  Let's make this a BIG EVENT, so bring some guests with you.

The Cannon Report:
The April meeting will be a Camp picnic, at the Powhatan Courthouse, on the 30th.  The picnic will start a 1 p.m..  The Camp will furnish the beverages and the entrée, fried chicken, from The County Seat Restaurant.  Please bring a side dish or desert.  Last year there was a severe lack of tables and chairs.  If you have a folding table/chairs, please try to bring them.  It is better to have too many than not enough.  Let’s try to have a good showing this year.  This is a public event.  Commander Lee mentioned at the March meeting that that he would put out flyers announcing the picnic.  This is our chance to celebrate Confederate History Month in Powhatan and the eyes of Powhatan will be watching.  It would certainly be nice to see/meet some of the Camp Members (and families) that never find time to come to their Camp meetings.  So please try to make an effort to come to the Camp Picnic.  Prints of the Muster Day will go on sale soon.  The proceeds will go to the scholarship fund.  The Camp plans to auction off the first 100 signed and numbered prints to the highest bidders.  More details to come

Also in April, on the 15th, the Camp will have a rededication of the Monument marking the location of Lee’s Last Bivouac.  The Camp relocated the Monument across the highway from its original location last week.  It was 141 years ago, on April 14th, 1865 that General Lee spent his last night on the lawn of Windsor, his last camp after the surrender at Appomattox.  He rode into Richmond and his family’s home the next day.  The rededication will be held at 3 p.m.; the site is located on Huguenot Trail (route 711) and Lee’s Landing Road about four miles east of Route 522.

The May meeting will be a trip to Pamplin Park on the 28th, at 2 p.m.  Commander Lee has arranged for a guided tour.  The cost will be $12.00 a person.  Details to follow.

The June meeting is planed to tour the Appomattox Court House.  Details to follow.

Commander Kornagay still needs help in continuing the articles in the Powhatan Today paper on “True Confederate History.”  Any Compatriot that would like to submit an article should keep it to 400 words in length.  The article should be accurate and based on facts that are documented.  Please mail your article to Lt.
