Commander’s Comments                                                  January 2006

Thanks to our Adjutant, Michael Pogue and Mrs. Pogue for hosting our Christmas Party in their lovely home.  All in attendance had a great time.
Lt Commander Kornegay will be the first to write the column in the Powhatan Today Weekender.  The column, “True Confederate History” which started on the 14th of January, will be in the Weekender on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.  I will have copies for any member that does not receive the Powhatan Today.

The Cannon Report:
The January meeting will be held on the 29th at Frisby’s Restaurant, 2150 Anderson Highway.  Lunch will be at 12:00 and the meeting will start at 1:00.  We will have the bar area located behind the restaurant to ourselves.  We have been told that the room has been remodeled.

Lt Commander Kornegay’s first three articles will be on State Succession. We had a discussion on his articles at the Christmas party.  I have no doubt that the articles will be very informative and that you might be surprised to find out about several ongoing succession movements.  I will be posting the articles on the Camp’s web site, www.powhatan.org, as they become available.  By the time you receive this report, I should have the first article that was published on the 14th of January, posted on our web site.

Speaking of the Camp’s Web site, I have resolved the software problems that prevented me from updating the site.  I have made some changes to the site and will be updating and posting as time permits.  If you have any suggestions pertaining to the site, please email me at      scv_pmhouser@yahoo.com, that is scv(underscore)pmhouser .

Remember, we are having a monthly drawing for a year’s subscription to the Southern Partisan or the Southern Mercury magazine (winner’s choice).  The names of all Camp members will be entered into the drawing, but you must be present at the meeting to win.

Compatriot Jeremy Utt, our Camp Historian, is diligently working to compile a history of our SCV Camp.  If you can contribute any materials from past camp events, i.e., photos, newspaper articles, mementos, information, advice, etc., please mail it to him at 2505 Brauer Rd., Powhatan, VA, 23139.  Jeremy would appreciate any information or assistance you can contribute to his worthy undertaking.

The February meeting will be on the 26th at Frisby’s.  Lunch at 1200, meeting at 1300.
